Levin and Stabenow Applaud Department of Energy Report Stating MSU's Facility for Rare Isotope Beams Ready to Move Forward

U.S. Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, both D-Mich., welcomed a positive report today from the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science, which found that MSU's Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) project has met its required milestones and is ready to move forward to its next phase.

"Completion of the Lehman project management review of FRIB and its conclusion that the project is ready to move forward is very good news for MSU and the entire state of Michigan," said Levin. "The Lehman team's endorsement and support of the work done by MSU to date is a vitally important milestone on the road to construction of FRIB. I will continue to work with the administration and with my colleagues to ensure that we make real progress this year."

"Today's report is positive news for the MSU FRIB project, which means thousands of Michigan jobs and will make Michigan a world leader in this new cutting-edge technology," said Stabenow. "We will continue working to build bipartisan support to ensure that Michigan State has the resources necessary to keep this critical project moving forward."

The report was written by a review committee led by Daniel Lehman, director of the DOE Office of Science's Office of Project Assessment. The committee's review considered all aspects of the FRIB project, including technical development, cost, schedule, management, environmental concerns, health, and safety.
